My Family’s Experience With Talking Point Cards

The Family Pack has helped us supercharge our conversations and spend way more meaningful time together. When I first bought it, I wasn’t quite sure how my kids would react: Would they treat it like they do a lot of games – play with it a couple of times before going back to preferring tablets and phones? Would they find the whole concept of sitting down to talk to their parents embarrassing or boring?

After we used the Family Pack together for the first time, I knew I didn’t have to worry anymore. The way that my kids were absolutely loving the chance to talk, having a great time coming up with answers to the questions, and actively listening as we all gave our responses… I knew there was something special about these cards. And I was right.

5 Things I Love About Using the Family Pack

In order to really highlight what it feels like to use the Family Pack, I’ll go through the 5 main ways that I’ve noticed it showing up in our lives.

The Cards Make It Easier To Talk More

Having the Family Pack around has just made us talk to each other way more. This is the most obvious fact about the Family Pack, but it’s also the most important – so I don’t want to understate it.

When these cards are within reach, so is great conversation. Family members of all ages (from my husband and me all the way down to our 6-year-old!) can open up the box, pull out a card, and initiate some quality time.

This has made it easier than ever to spend more time talking with one another. As long as there’s at least two members of the family sitting around and looking for something to do, they can pull out a card and start talking. And if we’re all together in the car or in the living room? We have awesome whole-family conversations that have us breaking out in laughs, learning new things about one another, and connecting in a super fulfilling way!

It Helps Us Reduce Our Screen Time

With all of our added time spent talking to one another, our family’s screen time (when we’re all together, at least) has gone way down! As it turns out, having these cards around is the perfect way to combat the way that digital devices can creep into our hands in those passing moments when it feels like you have nothing better to do.

By far my favorite aspect of this has been seeing my kids actually use the Family Pack in times when they otherwise might have gone for their phone or asked to use a tablet or watch TV.

We Have More Meaningful Conversations

The Family Pack doesn’t just help us increase the number of conversations we’re having, it has really improved the quality of our conversations, too. I used to always try to start things off with the classic: “How was your day?” Or “How was school?” and now it feels like I have a million more interesting questions that I can use instead.

The Family Pack has really showed me that you get as good as you give when it comes to conversation: ask a boring question and the conversation will probably fizzle out quickly, but if you ask an engaging question it could lift off a ton of super fun discussion.

We always had the capacity to have deeper and more meaningful conversations, but we definitely weren’t capitalising on it enough. The questions on the cards make it so that we don’t really have to ‘do’ anything other than commit to speaking our mind in response to the questions, and that has actually made all the difference for us.

The Questions Are Great Things for Kids to Think About

Speaking of how good the questions are, I have just been amazed at the different ways they get my kids thinking about themselves and the world they’re growing up in. I mean, I was definitely not asked things like: “Would you rather be the best player on the worst team or the worst player on the best team?”!

The kids have seriously blown me away with some of their responses, and it just makes me so happy to think that I’m giving them nourishing questions and conversation topics that will help them grow as thinkers and communicators!

Communication In Our House Is at An All-Time High

Because we’re consistently having deeper conversations with the Family Pack, it feels like we’ve kind of ‘normalised’ emotionally-intelligent communication in our household. I really think that because we’re so used to hearing each other voice their opinions and expressing their feelings it’s made us all a little more conscious about sharing space with each other.

My kids have actually been bickering noticeably less (how amazing is that?!) and it really seems like it’s because they have more empathy with each other and the different things we’re going through. Plus, I bet it’s just because we’ve all been having so much fun talking that it’s harder to get or stay mad at each other!

Is the Family Pack Worth Your Time and Money?

Based on my experiences with my own family, I’d say that the Talking Point Cards Family Pack is one of the best ways you could spend your money.

It might seem like it’s ‘just a box of cards,’ but if you give it a shot, you’ll see that it is SO much more than that. These cards give you more quality time together, help you bond and communicate better, give everyone an easy and comfortable way to share what’s on their mind, keep phones and tablets from invading in on family time, entertain you for hours on road trips or plane rides, show your kids you care about what they have to say, and so much more.

So, let’s get into the facts. The Family Pack sells for $29.95 USD, and it has free shipping if you live in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, or Australia. Sure, that might seem kind of expensive, but as I’ve said so many times already, you really don’t realize how life-changing these cards are until you use them with your family.

Compared to all of the things I’ve spent money on for my family, the Family Pack is easily in the upper, upper percentile of returning on value. Even if you just think of it as a way to keep your kids entertained, it’s totally worth it – and that’s before you add in the fact that it’s making your kids spend less time on screens, giving them expert-created questions to talk about, helping everyone bond and get closer, etc.

And if you ask whether it’s ‘worth your time,’ compare it to all of the other ways that your family uses their time together… These cards get you to talk, laugh, and create memories together – I can’t think of anything that’s more ‘worth my time’ than that!

Plus, Talking Point Cards just seems like a great brand to support. It’s small and family-owned, they put a ton of effort into working with different kinds of experts to create the questions, and it was started by a young Dad who wanted to find a way to help people spend more time together like they used to.

The Power of a Family Pack Conversation

I’ve tried a few conversation starter card products, and I can honestly say that nothing compares to Talking Point Cards. Sure, I’ve had a lot of success starting and sustaining conversations with the other brands, but once you’ve found something that’s basically better in every way (TPC), it’s hard to see why you’d ever go back…

The Family Pack has a way better array of questions that are truly thought provoking, engaging, and interesting for all ages. And with 4 different categories, you can always find exactly the kind of question for your mood and audience. TPC is the only conversation starter brand I know of that works with a whole team of experts to write and review their questions, and the difference totally comes through in the quality of the prompts.

The Family Pack just lives on our kitchen table nowadays, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I didn’t buy it as a centrepiece, but there’s nothing I’d rather have just an arm’s reach away while we’re all eating together! (Plus, the box is actually pretty cute!)

Trying Talking Point Cards for Yourself

If all of my glowing compliments for the Family Pack haven’t quite convinced you, I have one extra tidbit that should do the trick: Talking Point Cards has a total money-back guarantee! If you’re in any way not satisfied with the Family Pack experience, you can return it and get your money back. Now go ahead and see for yourself how amazing these cards are!

When my kids were younger, we used to talk for what felt like hours at the dinner table.

Now that they’re a little more grown-up (10 and 12), my husband and I are getting less and less quality time with them at our weeknight dinners.

And trust me – it’s not for lack of trying!

My husband purposefully comes home early so he can be with us every night, and I changed around my work schedule to give myself enough time to cook a delicious, healthy meal that we can all enjoy together.

But still, something about this arrangement wasn’t working…

I read online that families should be sitting down and talking for at least 30 minutes a night at dinner, so I decided to track how much time we were spending together for a week:

  • Monday: 21 minutes
  • Tuesday: 19 minutes
  • Wednesday: 24 minutes
  • Thursday: 27 minutes
  • Friday: 26 minutes

Yikes! I knew I had to do something, and that’s when I found out about conversation starter cards.

They’re basically… exactly what they sound like: a bunch of cards in a box that have good conversation prompts on them!

I decided to go with the highest-rated conversation starter cards for families on Amazon, the Talking Point Cards ‘Family Pack.’

The example questions in the photos seemed great, and everyone in the comments was just raving about how the Family Pack helped them keep a good conversation going and spend more time with one another!

And Guess What: The Cards Really Do Work!!!

Once I got the Family Pack, I told myself I’d use them at the dinner table for a week straight and see how much changed.

If the cards didn’t help us talk any more than usual, I’d just return them (and we’d return to our pathetic 24.4 minutes a night of dinner-table conversation…)

The only variable that changed in my little experiment was we went from starting our conversations with the usual “How was your day?” type of questions to the questions on the Family Pack cards.

Here are the results from the first week:

  • Monday: 51 minutes
  • Tuesday: 44 minutes
  • Wednesday: 47 minutes
  • Thursday: 39 minutes
  • Friday: 1 hour and 22 minutes!!!

How amazing is that!

In the first week of using the Family Pack, the amount of time we spent talking at the dinner table more than doubled!!!

And it wasn’t just that the length of our conversations improved, either.

The whole vibe of our dinners shifted from “something to do” to “something to savor” (I thought that all of my extra cooking efforts would have already accomplished that… but oh well!)

The pace and format of pulling out cards and answering them together were perfect for guiding great dinner-table conversations.

All of a sudden, none of us were rushing to get back on our phones (or go upstairs to do their ‘homework’)…

We were enjoying each other’s company so much (and enjoying discussing each and every prompt!) that we just wanted to stay seated, pull one more card, and keep the conversation going!!

During that first week, we talked about a huge variety of different topics, learned new things about each other, and even brainstormed some ways we could work together better as a family unit!

And It’s All Thanks to the Family Pack

It’s been a couple of months since that first magical week with the Family Pack, and I’m happy to report that we’re going as strong as ever!

We still talk for way longer at the table, and our conversations with the Family Pack are just so fun, interesting, and exciting!

Plus, since we started having these longer dinner-table conversations, I’ve noticed that our family communication has improved, all of our screen times have gone down, and my 10-year-old has noticeably gained confidence in speaking and expressing her opinions!

I’m so glad I recognized our family dinner conversation problem and found such a great solution in the Family Pack.

These cards have quite literally given us an extra 3-4 hours of quality time and meaningful conversation a week!!!

If that sounds like something you’d like, go to the Talking Point Cards website to get your very own Family Pack!

P.S.: If you are still on the fence (why?!)Talking Point Cards offer free shipping, free no-questions-asked returns, and have over 10,000 reviews on their products. Give it a go! (you won’t regret it)

Conversation Starter Cards? For your own family? I was a little skeptical at first, but you’d be amazed at how much we use these now…

Having great questions to ask your kids isn’t something that comes in the parenting handbook, but it DEFINITELY comes in handy.

I was so done with the same old “How was school?” …. “Good” …. conversation (if you can even call it that), and I desperately wanted to mix things up and give us new stuff to talk about.

BUT I’m super busy being a Mom and working…

I don’t have the time in the day to think up conversation prompts that would appeal to me, my husband, and my 9 and 12 year old kids all at the same time!!

I figured I could just get a list of questions online, but after doing some research, I did NOT like the selection I found on there (and I knew my kids wouldn’t either).

When you’re a parent, a good conversation with your kids is worth its weight in gold

Which means that whatever gets you to have that conversation is… worth as much gold?

Okay, maybe it’s not worth that much – but the point is, I was definitely willing to spend a couple of bucks if it meant that I was getting really high-quality questions that would get my family to talk for longer at the dinner table, in the car, and wherever else we were together.

After all, I spend money on all kinds of things just to make my family’s life a little easier and more enjoyable!

Here’s what you need to know: these cards actually work.

After reading some different reviews, I decided on the Talking Point Cards ‘Family’ Pack (I got it for under $30 on Amazon, and they have it on their website too).

And yes, it was worth it.

There are 200 cards in a really solid box with a slide-off top. The cards are divided into 4 different categories (which are basically like ‘conversation themes’) and they’re color coded on the edges so you can know which category you’re choosing when you’re just reaching for a card.

The actual questions (there’s one on every card) are fantastic. They are creative and thought provoking and… actually lead to great conversations.

We can just be sitting in the car in silence and then BOOM, someone will pull out the box and strike up a great conversation in just a few seconds.

And when I say someone, I mean my kids too. They are SO much more likely to pick up the box and read out a question than they are to ask some ‘out of the box’ (ha!) question on their own.

We use the Family Talking Point Cards at least a few times a week to spice up our conversations and give us some time to just bond and learn more about each other.

I would estimate that these cards give us about 3-4 extra hours of conversation and quality time a week… which means that at this point, they basically are worth their weight in gold to me!!!

If you want to try them for yourself, I got mine on Amazon (with Prime free shipping), or you can get them off their website (also free shipping and free returns too!)

P.S.: If you are still on the fence, Talking Point Cards offer free shipping, free no-questions-asked returns, and have over 3,000 reviews on Amazon with an average of 4.7 stars. Give it a go! (you won’t regret it)
