Conversation Starter Cards? For your own family? I was a little skeptical at first, but you’d be amazed at how much we use these now…
Having great questions to ask your kids isn’t something that comes in the parenting handbook, but it DEFINITELY comes in handy.
I was so done with the same old “How was school?” …. “Good” …. conversation (if you can even call it that), and I desperately wanted to mix things up and give us new stuff to talk about.
BUT I’m super busy being a Mom and working…
I don’t have the time in the day to think up conversation prompts that would appeal to me, my husband, and my 9 and 12 year old kids all at the same time!!
I figured I could just get a list of questions online, but after doing some research, I did NOT like the selection I found on there (and I knew my kids wouldn’t either).
When you’re a parent, a good conversation with your kids is worth its weight in gold
Which means that whatever gets you to have that conversation is… worth as much gold?
Okay, maybe it’s not worth that much – but the point is, I was definitely willing to spend a couple of bucks if it meant that I was getting really high-quality questions that would get my family to talk for longer at the dinner table, in the car, and wherever else we were together.
After all, I spend money on all kinds of things just to make my family’s life a little easier and more enjoyable!
Here’s what you need to know: these cards actually work.
After reading some different reviews, I decided on the Talking Point Cards ‘Family’ Pack (I got it for under $30 on Amazon, and they have it on their website too).
And yes, it was worth it.
There are 200 cards in a really solid box with a slide-off top. The cards are divided into 4 different categories (which are basically like ‘conversation themes’) and they’re color coded on the edges so you can know which category you’re choosing when you’re just reaching for a card.
The actual questions (there’s one on every card) are fantastic. They are creative and thought provoking and… actually lead to great conversations.
We can just be sitting in the car in silence and then BOOM, someone will pull out the box and strike up a great conversation in just a few seconds.
And when I say someone, I mean my kids too. They are SO much more likely to pick up the box and read out a question than they are to ask some ‘out of the box’ (ha!) question on their own.
We use the Family Talking Point Cards at least a few times a week to spice up our conversations and give us some time to just bond and learn more about each other.
I would estimate that these cards give us about 3-4 extra hours of conversation and quality time a week… which means that at this point, they basically are worth their weight in gold to me!!!
If you want to try them for yourself, I got mine on Amazon (with Prime free shipping), or you can get them off their website (also free shipping and free returns too!)
P.S.: If you are still on the fence, Talking Point Cards offer free shipping, free no-questions-asked returns, and have over 3,000 reviews on Amazon with an average of 4.7 stars. Give it a go! (you won’t regret it)
